Rattenberg
Rattenberg is Austria’s smallest town. First mentioned in a document in 1254, it was granted the privileges of a town in 1393. It is one of the few towns in Europe to boast an almost fully preserved Mediaeval townscape, which makes for a very special atmosphere. Rattenberg’s glass-processing industry dates back to the 19th century. At that time, individual glass processors settled in the vicinity of the Kramsach glassworks, which had already been in business for 300 years. Today, a dozen glass-processing businesses help keep Rattenberg’s reputation as the glass-making town of Tyrol alive. Discover countless sights and delightful details in the town, visit well-run specialist shops for advice and enjoy a wide range of culinary treats in the historic atmosphere of this small and select pedestrian-friendly town.
Museum of Tyrolean farms, Kramsach
Original farms from all over Tyrol: an experience for young and old alike. Thanks to the work carried out by many helpers and dedicated staff, fourteen farms from different valley communities in Tyrol have been transported to the museum and carefully integrated into new surroundings. Traditional subsistence strategies, architecture, tools and fences show ways of life that have been largely suppressed and gradually forgotten. Immerse yourself in a world of life and work from a bygone age that determined life in our country for many years.
Alpine roads in the Zillertal
The Schlegeis Alpine road leads up into the stunning high mountains around the Schlegeis reservoir, while the Zillertal high Alpine road affords fabulous panoramic views. The Zillergrund Alpine road leads into the Stillup Valley – an idyllic landscape with great hiking trails to explore. Accessible all year round, the Gerlos Alpine road also deserves a mention. Up at the mountain pass, the upland moors make a fascinating sight for visitors who can continue along the road to the awe-inspiring Krimml Waterfalls.
